Alexandria School was founded in 2007 by Carolyn Stulberg, BSN, CCE, based on her passion for the highest quality in-home child care. With over 30 years of experience in child care education, Carolyn has worked in the pediatric wards and neonatal intensive care units of hospitals, taught prenatal, postnatal, parenting, grandparenting and breastfeeding classes, developed her own courses for creative play and current concepts in infant care, and is a mother of four herself. The instructors at Alexandria School, along with Carolyn and the school’s dedicated staff, are committed to educating and training nannies with a demanding, practical curriculum that will position graduates to be the best in the profession.

Julie Rosenthal, B.S.
Course(s) taught: Creative Play
The preschool director of Temple Emanu El for 12 years, Julie Rosenthal earned a Bachelor of Science degree in early childhood development from The Ohio State University and then taught at OSU's Child Care Center. After returning to Cleveland in 1989, she worked as a teacher at Temple Emanu El and was the head teacher in the childcare center of Menorah Park for the Aging before being appointed the temple’s preschool director in 1995.
Edie Ungar-Shafron, M.A.
Course(s) taught: Child Development, Learning Styles
Edie Ungar-Shafron has over 20 years of school psychology and private practice experience. With a Bachelor of Arts in applied clinical psychology from Alfred University and a master’s degree from the educator program of The Ohio State University, Edie has served as the school psychologist at Brecksville-Broadview Heights City Schools, the Education Service Center of Cuyahoga County, and Orange City School District. She is licensed by the State of Ohio Board of Psychology and has published various media articles on parenting, education and family issues.
Phil Kleinhenz, M.Ed.
Course(s) taught: Art Appreciation/Field Trips
A retired elementary teacher with over 28 years of experience with a variety of age groups, Phil is especially well versed in local art and field trip resources. Phil’s education includes a Master of Education and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from John Carroll University. Phil is actively involved with the Cleveland Museum of Art Teacher Resource Center, serving on the Teacher Advisory Council and the Curriculum Committee for over 20 years, and volunteers at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. Phil’s interests include art and collecting, travel, biking, hiking and archeology.
Carol Paull, M.Ed., M.S.S.A.
Course(s) taught: Literacy for Children
Carol Paull earned a master’s degree in elementary education from the Bank Street College of Education, a master’s degree in social science administration from Case Western Reserve University Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences and has a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Brandeis University. Carol teaches graduate and undergraduate courses at John Carroll University and has consulted for schools in the Cleveland Municipal School District. Carol also served for six years as the director of a 200-child preschool and worked for seven years as an elementary school teacher. Carol is certified as a lay child psychoanalyst, has her K-8 teaching certification, is a licensed independent social worker by the State of Ohio, is a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children and has a private practice in consulting.
Diane Weiner, M.A.
Course(s) taught: Special Needs; Speech and Hearing
Diane has over 35 years of experience in special needs and speech and hearing. She earned a master’s degree from Kent State University and a bachelor’s degree in speech pathology from Ohio University. Diane is a certified speech pathologist and currently serves as the language/speech pathologist for the Cleveland Heights-University Heights School District.
Nancy Anne, M.A.
Course(s) taught: Communication; Growth & Development in the Teen Years
Nancy has over 30 years of experience in individual and group counseling and coaching with a focus on non-violent communication, assertiveness and self esteem, stress management, and relationships. Nancy earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology/Zoology from Ohio University and a Master of Arts in Counseling/Human Services from John Carroll University.
Karin Marsh, M.Ed.
Course(s) taught: Computer Skills
With a Master of Education from John Carroll University, Karin brings over six years of teaching experience in computer education to K-5 students at University School, with a focus on Internet research and safety, as well as using software such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel and Paint at various grade levels. Karin has additional experience teaching sound editing and digital image suites, Type to Learn, Inspiration, Kidspiration and Oregon Trail.
Jill Minger, M.D.

Educated at Johns Hopkins University and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Dr. Minger is an Obstetrics and Gynecological resident at MetroHealth System.
Reno “Jay” Reda, A.D.
Course(s) taught: Personal Safety; Animal Awareness, Driving Safety
A career outdoors and law enforcement professional, Reno has worked for over two decades promoting outdoor-oriented activities. He has trained over 3,000 women in personal protection and awareness, owns a private security firm that specializes in testing of small corporations for compliance with the Homeland Security Act, and has over 12 years of experience as a trained and certified police K-9 handler. Reno teaches and mentors children and hosts the radio show Inside the Great Outdoors.
Timothy Guy, EMT-P
Course(s) taught: Injury Prevention, Medic First Aid Certification Classes
Tim has been a Paramedic for almost 20 years and currently works as a senior member on a specialty Critical Care Transport Team at University Hospitals for which he has been part of for almost 10 years. The Critical Care Transport Team specializes in the response and care for critically ill or injured newborns, children and adults. University Hospital and Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital has been a leading Children’s hospitals in the nation for the last 20 years. As a senior member Tim is involved in the training and continuing education of his team and holds numerous certifications including Advanced Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, NRP and Pediatric and Basic Trauma Life Support.
Gretchen Becker, B.A.
Course(s) taught: Interview Skills
Gretchen had over fifteen years of experience in corporate human resource management and a bachelor’s degree in social work from the College of St. Benedict before joining Alexandria School as the recruitment manager. Gretchen’s specialties include interview preparation and in-person self-presentation.
Dana Stulberg, B.A.
Course(s) taught: Professionalism; Portfolio Development
Dana has a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and psychology from Dartmouth College and worked in marketing and public relations for The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company and Gorton’s Seafood Company before joining Alexandria School as the director of development. Her forte includes portfolio production and professionalism in written communication.
Molly McKenna, B.A.
Course(s) taught: Baby Sign Language
Having worked as a professional American Sign Language interpreter, Molly also has extensive experience teaching sign language to beginners. Molly earned her bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College and is currently pursuing her master’s of business administration from The Stern School in New York City.
Sarah Schmidt, B.A.
Course(s) taught: Music
Sarah has a bachelor's degree from Indiana University in elementary education. She served as the music director of the university's premier all-female a cappella group, Ladies First, has had numerous solo performances in collegiate and social functions and has performed in countless community theatre productions. Sarah has recorded several albums, plays piano, and is currently a second grade teacher at St. Joseph's School in Cincinnati, where she enjoys assisting with the children's liturgical choir.

Ilse is a retired master tailor trained in Germany and has decades of varied experience in textiles and tailoring, as well as pattern making for men’s suits and coats and women’s clothing.
